Canon opens up its sensor with global shutter to other manufacturers
Canon now gives others the opportunity to buy and use its 10.3 megapixel sensor with global shutter, in their products.
Canon is now opening up for other companies to purchase and use its APS-C sensor with a global shutter in their own camera solutions. The 10.3-megapixel sensor has a 16:9 format surface, making it suitable for cinema cameras.
The resolution supports up to 4K as the resolution is 4288 x 2398 pixels, and in the APS-C format, it provides the equivalent of 1.34x of a full-frame sensor.
In 2023, Sony released its flagship camera Sony A9 III with a global shutter, which offers several advantages, especially for those filming, while they develop new sensors with the technology with higher frame rates.
Even the camera manufacturer RED released their cinema cameras V-Raptor X & XL in 2024, also with a global shutter.
