Kamera & Bild has written a lot about AI and generative AI and how nowadays it is relatively difficult for many to distinguish what is true and what is not. Now, Google wants to help the viewer by showing an information section about AI, and at the same time marking images that are somehow handled with the help of AI tools - all to increase transparency. At the same time, it will also say "Created with Google AI" in the creator field: By showing the detailed file information for the image, one will soon be able to see an "AI Info" box with all the metadata about what has happened with the image. Among other things, AI tools such as Magic Editor, Magic Eraser, Zoom Enhance available in Google Photos / Google Foto on Android, will be shown in the file's metadata.

It is not just Google Photos that comes with metadata, but also other images where AI is used through Google Photos will be marked.

By adding this, Google hopes to do their part so that as many as possible can follow their own principles of transparency according to their own guidelines.

According to a new EU law, those who provide a system that uses AI must also inform the user of the service or software when AI is used, something that is intended to increase transparency between the service and the user and also between the user and the publisher.

The labeling will start rolling out soon to Google Photos for Android and IOS, as well as the web.
