Nikon Nikkor Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ under development
Nikon announces the development of a full-frame standard zoom lens for the Z-mount, with built-in power zoom for video creators.
Nikon announces that they are developing a lens dedicated for video creators, with the ability to use so-called powerzoom, i.e., a motor-driven zoom to change focal length smoothly and at a consistent speed.
The press release does not reveal much more than that, but the lens is the first full-frame primarily aimed at video creators. The lens design also uses a consistent yellow color for details, such as text highlighting and mounting ring, which may signify the new style for Nikon's full-frame lenses for filmmakers.
"NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ is a standard zoom lens with powerful zoom that covers focal lengths from 28 to 135 mm. The lens is being developed to be easy to use and provide superior optical performance during film recording. It will streamline the work during documentary shooting and make it easier for a solo cinematographer or a small team to work in the field."
Last year, we saw the Nikkor Z DX 12-28mm f/3.5-5.6 PZ VR, which was the first lens with motor zoom for Nikon's Z-system. At the same time, Kamera & Bild wrote in April about Nikon's acquisition of the cinema company RED, something that could contribute to a greater focus on video.
