Nikon Nikkor Z 35mm f/1.2 S - high-performance wide-angle

Nikon is now releasing its third Z lens with an f/1.2 aperture for the Z system, this time in the classic 35mm focal length.

Nikon Nikkor Z 35mm f/1.2 S becomes Nikon's third f/1.2 lens in the S-series following the release of Nikkor Z 50mm f/1.2 S and Nikkor Z 85mm f/1.2 S.

The lens is suitable for those who need a bright wide-angle lens, such as photojournalists. According to Nikon, the lens should have good optical properties with high sharpness, shallow depth of field for smooth background blur, and reduced ghosting through three different anti-reflective coatings and 11 rounded aperture blades.

The optical construction consists of 17 elements in 15 groups. Specialized ED and SR lens elements work together to counteract light dispersion and prevent color bleeding, distortion, and aberrations, as well as reduce focus breathing.

For those filming, linear focusing can also be activated for controlled and precise manual focus pulling via the focus ring.

Nikon three f/1.2 lenses in the S-series.

The filter diameter is 82 mm, the same as other f/1.2 lenses. The weight is 1060 grams and the minimum focusing distance is 0.3 m.

Nikon Nikkor Z 35 mm f/1.2 S will start shipping on February 27, 2025. The recommended price is 38,990 kronor including VAT.

NIKON INTRODUCES NIKKOR Z 35MM F/1.2 S. A BRILLIANT STORYTELLER.

Stockholm, Sweden, February 5, 2025: Today, Nikon expands its premium range of high-performance f/1.2 lenses with the NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.2 S. With its ultra-fast f/1.2 aperture and extraordinary resolution capacity, this bright, professional S-series lens paves the way for new creative possibilities for visual storytellers working with stills or film. Fashion, editorial work, art, events, documentaries: the light speaks, and this lens listens.

NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.2 S gives photographers and filmmakers precise control over the light and how they want to shape it. The perfectly balanced optical design combines with powerful rendering and precision focusing to capture subjects in detail. From the most subtle colors to the finest textures, you get excellent contrast and clarity across the entire image - even when shooting directly against strong light sources. Bokeh and sharpness are beautifully rendered, with a background that transitions into the foreground so smoothly that subjects can be isolated with a depth that gives an almost three-dimensional feel.

Visual storytellers and cinematographers who want to exploit the extremely shallow depth of field can work confidently with the f/1.2 aperture thanks to Nikon's fast and accurate multi-focusing system. The smallest part of the subject can be sharply focused against a rounded and evenly graded bokeh - even when shooting at close distances. Whether you are shooting landscape or portrait compositions, intuitive and fully customizable controls are within reach. This robust full-frame lens is also fully sealed to allow you to work confidently in dusty environments or unpredictable weather conditions.1

Zurab Kiknadze, Product Manager at Nikon Europe says: “The 35 mm focal length is a beloved classic among photographers and filmmakers. Thanks to the Z-mount's incredible light-gathering capabilities, we can now proudly launch the most sophisticated version of a 35 mm lens to date. With its masterful optical design and incredibly bright aperture, this full-frame S-series lens is designed for visual storytellers who want the very best. I look forward to seeing how master photographers will take the NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.2 S into the next era of beautiful image creation.”

Summary of key features: NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.2 S

Classic 35 mm focal length, masterful rendering: phenomenal resolution capacity for detailed and accurate reproduction of subjects, regardless of focus distance. The lens delivers incredibly clear colors and contrasts throughout the composition.

Super-fast maximum aperture of f/1.2: provides aesthetic control in all light. The absolutely smallest part of a subject can be sharply focused against a round and evenly graded bokeh - even when shooting at close distances.

Excellent bokeh: A rounded aperture with eleven blades and advanced optical design gives you a smooth bokeh that is perfectly rounded and smooths out towards the edges of the image, without color bleeding - even around point light sources.

Precision optics in the S-series: The optical formula consists of 17 elements in 15 groups. Specialized ED and SR lens elements work together to counteract light dispersion and prevent color bleeding, distortion, and aberrations.

Exceptional clarity: Nikon's anti-reflective coatings: Meso-amorphous coating, ARNEO coating, and nanocrystal coating significantly reduce ghost effects and lens flare, even in backlight.

Cinematographer's favorite: The classic 35 mm focal length combines with the fast f/1.2 aperture to allow filmmakers to shape the story with smooth precision. Focus breathing is counteracted and linear focusing can be activated for controlled and precise manual focus pulling via the focus ring.

Fast and razor-sharp AF: The multi-focusing system provides incredible precision and speed even when working with extremely shallow depth of field. Dual stepper motors make fast continuous adjustments to keep the focus point sharp.

Easy handling: two L-Fn buttons perfectly placed for both horizontal and vertical shooting. The large, ribbed focus ring activates smoothly and the control ring is fully customizable.

Robust: The solid lens body is carefully sealed at seams and buttons, and a rubber gasket prevents dust, dirt, or moisture from entering at the lens mount.1

Can be used with 82 mm filters: NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.2 S can be used with the same wide range of screw-on filters at 82 mm as the S-series f/1.2 lenses at 50 mm and 85 mm.

Part of the S-series f/1.2 trinity: depth of field, color fidelity, color tone, bokeh - shift perspective while maintaining the incredibly consistent image characteristics of the NIKKOR Z f/1.2 lenses in the S-series, available in 50 mm, 85 mm, and 35 mm.
