OM System OM-3 - modern technology with classic retro design

OM System releases an updated version of the OM System OM-1 Mark II - and flirts with its retro heritage in design and handling.

OM System OM-3 is the continuation of the development of the technology we find in the micro four thirds camera OM System OM-1 Mark II, while the design continues towards the classic analog camera Olympus OM-1 and the Pen-F look we have become accustomed to from Olympus. This goes hand in hand with the idea that the model should suit the creative photographer.

Even though the design follows retro inspiration, the camera has modern technology under the hood - among other things, the camera has a creative dial for adjusting filters and color profiles, something that OM System has long developed to, among other things, give the photographer the ability to produce finished files directly from the camera. Color settings, monochrome adjustment, or art filters can be switched between via the dial.

The resolution of the stacked sensor in MFT format is 20 megapixels, but the camera also has the ability to shoot up to 80 megapixels via sensor shift with a tripod or 50 megapixels handheld. Images can be taken up to 120 frames per second in raw format with an electronic shutter, with a mechanical shutter it is 6 frames per second. For continuous autofocus, 50 frames per second applies.

The image stabilization is up to 7.5 stops compensation with Sync IS with a compatible lens, which is below the Om System OM-1 Mark II's specifications of 8.5. The camera is also IP53-rated to withstand tough conditions.

Video is recorded in 4K/60p 10-bit H.256, with the option to use OM Cinema 1/2 and OM Log400 to handle highlights, for example. New is also the video switch for quick video switching, as well as the S&Q switch to switch to slow motion or quick motion with settings from 1-120 frames per second.

Another new feature is the button called "CP" for Computational Photography, which is OM Systems' collective button for adjustments of digital handling of photography. For example, there is Live ND/GND which allows you to apply a digital ND filter or graduated ND filter, to darken or tone the image digitally directly at the time of shooting - for example, by toning down a sky that is brighter than the foreground or ground. The camera also has focus stacking, multiple exposure, and HDR.

OM System OM-3 is available from February 27, 2025. The recommended price for the camera body is 23,490 kronor including VAT. The camera is also sold in a kit with 12-45mm F4 Pro for 27,990 kronor including VAT.
