Panasonic Lumix S5D - ready for DJI LiDAR autofocus
Uses LiDAR distance measurement for focusing via USB together with DJI Rangefinder Module or DJI RS 3 Pro Gimbal.
Panasonic's new camera Lumix S5D is based on and identical to the Lumix S5 from 2020, but features new technology, prepared for DJI LiDAR AF. Together with the DJI LiDAR Range Finder and DJI RS 3 Pro Gimbal, the camera can use distance measurement via USB, which means that no focusing motor is needed, in turn allowing for simpler handling without the need for calibration.
LiDAR's high-speed distance measurement has a resolution of 43,200 points over 14 meters, which means fast autofocus even in low light.
The sensor has 24.2 megapixels in full frame with a maximum ISO of 51,200 and Dual Native ISO technology, a dynamic range of 14 EV steps, and support for V-Log/V-Gamut.
The Lumix S5D can record in 4K 60p/50p 10-bit 4:2:0 and 4K 30p/25p 10-bit 4:2:2 internally, as well as record raw video via HDMI up to 5.9K. Modes such as Master Pedestal and Slow & Quick mode are possible to use.
The camera also has a built-in 5-axis image stabilizer, is made of a magnesium alloy and is weather-sealed. The viewfinder has a resolution of 2.36 million dots and a tiltable three-inch screen as well as dual SD card slots. The battery can be charged via USB.
The Panasonic Lumix S5D will be available at the end of October. The recommended price is 1,599 euros in a kit with Lumix S 18-40mm F4.5-6.3 or 2,099 euros in a kit with 20-200mm F4-7.1.
