Panasonic releases professional video cameras with 10-bit 4K/60p

Panasonic releases four classic handheld video cameras for video production and broadcasting: AG-CX20, AG-CX18, HC-X1600, and HC-X1200.

Panasonic is now releasing four new models of 4K video cameras for professional photographers in the more classic design: AG-CX20, AG-CX18, HC-X1600, and HC-X1200.

The cameras support 4K/60p in 10 bits and have a 25mm wide-angle with the possibility of 24x optical zoom. Both AG-CX20 and AG-CX18 have a detachable handle unit, HC-X1600 is compatible with a separate handle unit.

The two more advanced models, AG-CX20 and AG-CX18, support FHD live streaming via Wi-Fi and ethernet. Panasonic AG-CX20 will support the SRT4 protocol for high-quality streaming with low latency.

The cameras support 4:2:2 format in 10 bits in 4K/30p internally or 60p via HDMI. HEVC recording (LongGOP/10-bit 4:2:0/MOV) is supported for 4K/60 with a bitrate of 200 megabits. The cameras also have dual SD card slots, 48 kHz LPCM in 24 bits, and 5 GHz wifi.

The AG-CX20 and AG-CX18 are equipped with 3G-SDI and support simultaneous output with HDMI. The AG-CX20 offers the possibility for NDI HX2-compatible IP connection for smooth live streaming in network environments.

The models are updates from previous cameras, with new features suitable for professional use:

• Improved viewfinder: High-resolution OLED viewfinder with 1,770 K dots and larger eyecups.

• Updated USB-C port: The USB port has been upgraded to the versatile Type-C, which can also power the video camera.

• New low bitrate recording mode (firmware support): A new mode for FHD MP4 recording with low bitrate will be added in the next firmware update. It will support 28 Mbps (50p/59.94p), 24 Mbps (23.98p), and 20 Mbps (25p/29.97p).

• Improved low-speed zoom: Supports low-speed zooming, approximately 2.8 times slower than the previous model, which broadens the possibilities for video expression.

• Support for displaying recording guidelines: A new guideline display feature has been added, allowing users to check composition and horizontality.

• Improved network functionality: Supports Wi-Fi 5 GHz2 and adds functionality for USB tethering.

• Enhanced user-friendliness via app connection: The dedicated app “HC-ROP” now supports live view, making it easier to control the camera from a smart device.
