Raspberry Pi gets AI camera with Sony's IMX500 sensor

The single-board computer Raspberry Pi now has the capability to use AI for photography in the integrated circuit of the new camera module.

The new camera for Raspberry Pi features Sony's IMX500 sensor with a module, called "Sony IMX500 Intelligent Vision Sensor" and "Raspberry Pi AI Camera". The resolution is 12.1 megapixels and includes a built-in AI circuit to handle image information for object identification among other things.

Images are captured at 10 frames per second in 10-bit full resolution, or 30 fps for 2x2 pixel binned images at 2028 x 1520 10-bit.

The camera has an aperture of f/1.79 and captures up to 78.3 degrees. The module works with all Raspberry Pi models and supports updates of new firmware. The size is 25 x 24 x 11.9 mm.
