Sony FE 50-150mm F2 GM released - "as sharp as prime lenses"

Sony now releases a telephoto zoom that according to them "is as sharp as prime lenses at all focal lengths" - with a weight of 1340 grams.

In connection with the Sony World Photography Awards in London, Sony also released information about today's release: the new Sony FE 50-150mm F2 GM (SEL50150GM). The lens is the world's first F2 lens among telezooms up to 150mm.

Kamera & Bild was on site and tested the lens for studio photography. Here are some test images:

Image taken with the lens at 150mm.
Image taken with the lens at 70mm.

The idea with the lens is that it should be as sharp as prime lenses in the focal lengths embedded in the range - and thus be able to replace prime optics at 50mm, 85mm, 105mm, 125mm, and 150mm with a bright aperture of F2.

The lens has a white design, has internal zoom, and thus does not become larger or smaller when zooming, and has a weight of 1340 grams and a length of 200mm (excluding lens hood), which is the same size as Sony 70-200mm F2.8 OSS GM II.

The lens is constructed of 19 lens elements in 17 groups with two XA elements, two aspherical elements, two Super ED elements, and three ED elements. The lens should also be suitable for both still images and video. The filter size is 95mm.

Sony FE 50-150mm F2 GM will start selling at the beginning of June. We are waiting for the exact Swedish price.
