Leica M11, Q3, SL, and D-Lux cameras receive new firmware
Leica offers a whole bunch of firmware updates that provide new features to their various camera systems.
Leica makes a major investment with new firmware for several cameras in its various segments:
Version 2.2.0, Leica M11, M11-P, M11-D, M11 Monochrom
Background transfer: With Leica Fotos 5.0, preview images can be transferred in the background via Bluetooth.
Memory formatting via Leica Fotos: Formatting of the internal memory and the inserted memory card is now possible via Leica FOTOS 5.0.
Leica Fotos: Improved connection stability.
Version 3.0.0, Leica Q3, Q3 43
USB audio: New USB audio products from RØDE supported:
- VideoMic GO II
- VideoMic NTG
- Wireless GO II
- Wireless ME
- and compatible USB microphones
Photo mode: The blackout time for single images has been improved from approximately 310 ms to approximately 250 ms.
Firmware: Bug fixes in the firmware.
Connection to Leica Fotos app: The issue where Leica Fotos could not connect if another smartphone was already connected to the camera via Wi-Fi has been resolved.
Continuous shooting: The start delay for the 15 fps setting has been reduced by 700 ms.
Autofocus: The performance of iAF has been improved. Delay in focus and tracking performance has been optimized.
AF/AE lock: The AF lock function is now permanent after activation until the assigned button is pressed again or the AF field is moved. This applies to the settings AF-L + AE-L and AF-L. The AE lock function retains AE-L after activation, even if the AF field is moved.
AF field size: Configured AF field sizes are now saved in the user profile (on the SD card and in the camera's memory).
Touch AF: Can now be used via the Leica FOTOS app, even if the focus selector is set to MF.
USB mode: The camera's factory setting has been changed to “Select upon connection”.
Exif 3.0: Support for Exif 3.0 and GPS version 2.4.0.0 has been added.
Version 2.0.1, Leica SL3
White balance/Video ISO lock: A lock function for the Auto ISO and Auto WB settings has been added. The function ensures a constant ISO level and automatic white balance during video recording until the recording is stopped or the settings are changed via the menu.
Joystick: Additional assignment options:
Factory setting: AFs
Magnification is now also available for MF lenses and Leica M lenses.
New click and hold function for AF-L, AE-L, and AF-L + AE-L:
In click mode, the joystick no longer needs to be held down, but is activated and deactivated with a single click.
New function for joystick assignment: When AF-ON is selected for the joystick, autofocus measurement via the shutter release is deactivated. Instead, the measurement is activated by pressing the joystick.
User profile: Preparation for future firmware updates. Updates for version 2.0.0 and later will automatically apply existing settings for user profiles, language, time, and date.
Thumbwheel: New functionality as a function button.
Perspective control: The perspective control function is now also available in burst modes for 2 fps, 4 fps, and 5 fps.
Burst shooting: The start delay for the 15 fps setting has been reduced by 700 ms.
Control center: Optimization of connection icons and their placement in the control center (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, cable).
Storage options: The storage option DNG+JPG on CFe=SD (Backup) has been optimized. A warning message is displayed if no backup is available due to one of the two memory cards being missing or not functioning.
User Profile: The AF field size setting will now be included when a backup of the user profile is created.
Camera Menu: Improved navigation: A new button, “Back”, has been added to the upper left corner of the camera menu for easier navigation. WLAN Settings: The WLAN menu option has been moved to Camera Settings. New Flash Icon: A new flash icon has been integrated into the menu.
Photo Mode: The blackout time for single images has been improved from approximately 310 ms to approximately 250 ms.
Review Mode: Improved user interaction when deleting multiple images.
Connection to Leica Fotos App: The issue where Leica FOTOS could not connect if another smartphone was already connected to the camera via Wi-Fi has been resolved.
Exif 3.0: Support for Exif 3.0 and GPS version 2.4.0.0 has been added.
Mechanical shutter speeds: When using the hybrid shutter, the camera will now use the mechanical shutter for the times 1/5000 s, 1/6400 s, and 1/8000 s.
Version 6.1.0, Leica SL2, SL2-S
Profoto Connect Pro: An error when connecting to “Profoto Connect Pro” has been fixed.
Eye detection in AF mode: Eye detection when refocusing in video mode (AF mode, L-Log) has been improved.
Magnification via joystick: In MF mode, it is now once again possible to use the joystick for magnification.
